Other Investigations Occuring at the Ryan Veterinary Hospital

***These are studies that recruit candidates from the hospital population only, either as cases admitted through our Emergency Service or those with appointments through one of our many clinical services***

Radiology/Medicine This study evaluates the relationship between ultrasonographically determined Adrenal gland size and ACTH-stimulated cortisol concentrations. In an attempt to correlated adrenal size with cortisol levels as well as comparing the adrenal gland size measured by a 1st yr radiology resident and by a boarded member of faculty.
Critical Care There are several studies that are being conducted through or Critical Care Department including: A multi-institutional study evaluating the effects of low dose Hydrocortisone on blood pressure and survival in dogs with septic shock that have been seen by our Emergency Service and admitted to the ICU.
Medicine Two studies are currently being conducted to evaluate the effects of two new forms of insulin (Lispro® and Aspart®) on dogs admitted to our Emergency Service with Diabetic Ketoacidosis
Nutrition Currently conducting a trial to investigate a novel approach to calculating a dog's daily caloric requirements using standardized activity levels and a detailed food dairy.
