Description
Plants have smooth, linear leathery green leaves that arise along tall stem. Leaves are alternate. Flowers are showy (trumpet shaped), racemose and 3-merous.
Toxic principle
unknown. All parts of the plant should be considered toxic.
Toxicity
not well defined, but any ingestion should be considered serious.
Diagnosis
Clinical Signs
related to acute renal failure (anorexia, depression, anuria)
Laboratory diagnosis
consistent with acute renal failure.
Lesions
acute renal tubular necrosis
Treatment
  • Consider as a medical emergency
  • GID
  • Fluid diuresis
In Osweiler’s text there is reference to day-lilies being toxic (Hemerocallus sp.). To my knowledge there are no documented cases of intoxication from these plants.
