These two femurs are from a 2 month llama which suffered a unilateral open fracture approximately 3 weeks ago. The normal red marrow seen in the distal femur has been replaced by yellow caseous material. There is extensive periosteal bone proliferation making the fractured bone much larger than the normal bone.

A bone biopsy was taken and the slide demonstrated subperiosteal woven bone proliferation.
