Application Requirements
Applicants for the VMD-PhD program must have an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university. While there are no cut-offs for undergraduate GPA, average undergraduate GPA of recent matriculates is 3.7. Applicants are also required to take the Graduate Record Examination. Again, there are no cut-offs for scores, but average verbal and quantitative GRE scores of recent matriculates are 640 and 730, respectively.
Given the rigorous research necessary to complete the program, applicants must also possess significant laboratory experience. Students usually have multiple, in-depth research experiences, along with letters of recommendation from distinguished professionals who have seen the student's research skills firsthand.
A select number of applicants are invited for interviews with Penn faculty to discuss their past accomplishments and future academic goals. Applicants also meet with current combined degree students, tour the vibrant campus, and participate in several social activities.
