Image gallery: hypersensitivity reactions

Type I Hypersensitivity:
(Intradermal skin test, canine. Patient injected with potential allergens. Positive response indicated by small areas of acute (~10 min.) swelling (wheals) and erythema (flare response). Central red areas are artifacts of injection).
Type II Hypersensitivity:
(Pemphigus foliaceus, canine. Muzzle of a Chow Chow with Pemphigus foliaceus. Note pustules and crusting. Histopathology shows an intra-epidermal pustule filled with inflammatory cells; what are these cell types?).
Type III Hypersensitivity:
(Immuno-fluorescence staining of the basement membrane of skin for immunoglobulin complexes - evident as bright green/yellow staining).
