10. What is apoptosis?
Apoptosis refers to cell death that occurs by a set of internal mechanisms. It is involved in embryogenesis and development and physiological death of cells, where it has been referred to as programmed cell death. It involves a group of pathways of cell death that are the result of a regulated intracellular program that activates intracellular enzymes to cause degradation of cell proteins and DNA, cell shrinkage, and death.
