Sole Abscess Minimize

Sole abscess is also called "Pododermatitis circumscripta"

It is a circumscribed area of hemorrhage and necrosis:

  • typically in the posterior 1/3 of lateral claw of the hind feet
  • bone surface of the lateral distal phalanx is rougher than medial
  • frequently involves both hind feet, seen as shifting weight side to side
  • often seen along with heel erosion and interdigital dermatitis
  • soft discolored area -> perforation
  • granulation tissue may protrude
  • 2* bacterial invasion of the corium

If really severe or deep -> get avulsion of the deep flexor tendon

  • "cocked up" toe

Treatment:

  • trim and medicate
  • wooden block/Technovit
